How to Test Internet Connection Speed on PS5

This guide provides a straightforward method for checking your internet connection speed directly on your PlayStation 5 console. By following the steps below, you will learn how to access the network settings, run a built-in connection test, and analyze your download and upload speeds to ensure a smooth online gaming experience.

Accessing Network Settings

To begin the process, turn on your PS5 and navigate to the home screen. From the top right corner of the screen, select the gear icon to open the Settings menu. Once inside the Settings menu, scroll down to the Network section. This area contains all the options related to your console’s internet connectivity, including Wi-Fi settings and LAN connections.

Running the Connection Test

Within the Network menu, select the Connection Status option. This screen displays your current IP address and connection type. At the bottom of this page, you will see an option labeled Test Internet Connection. Select this option to initiate the diagnostic process. The PS5 will automatically check your connection to the PlayStation Network and measure your bandwidth.

Understanding the Results

After the test completes, the screen will display several key metrics. The Download Speed and Upload Speed are measured in Mbps, indicating how fast data travels to and from your console. You will also see your Ping value, measured in milliseconds, which represents latency. A lower ping is crucial for competitive gaming, while higher download speeds benefit game updates and streaming.

Troubleshooting Slow Speeds

If your test results show slower than expected speeds, consider connecting your console via an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi for a more stable connection. You can also try restarting your router or moving the console closer to your wireless access point. Running this test periodically helps you monitor performance and identify issues before they impact your gameplay.
