How to Take a Screenshot on Xbox One

Capturing gameplay moments on your console is simple once you know the right commands. This guide explains the button combinations required to take a screenshot on the Xbox One, how to access your capture gallery, and the steps to share your images with friends or on social media platforms directly from the dashboard.

Using the Controller Shortcut

The fastest way to capture an image is by using a specific button combination on your controller. While playing a game or navigating the dashboard, press the Xbox button and the Y button simultaneously. This action immediately saves a screenshot of whatever is currently displayed on your screen. You will see a notification confirming that the capture was successful.

Using the Guide Menu

If you prefer using the menu interface, press the Xbox button to open the guide. Navigate to the Capture & share tab, which is represented by a camera icon. Select Take screenshot from the options provided. This method is useful if you want to access additional capture settings or start a recording instead of a static image.

Viewing and Managing Captures

To view your saved images, press the Xbox button to open the guide again and select Capture & share. Choose Recent captures to see your latest screenshots. From here, you can manage your files, delete unwanted images, or upload them to Xbox Live. Your captures are stored locally on the console and uploaded to the cloud if you are connected to the internet.

Sharing Your Screenshots

Once you have selected a screenshot in your capture gallery, you can share it with others. Select the image and choose the Share option. You can send the image directly to friends on Xbox Live, post it to activity feeds, or copy a link to share on external social media networks. This allows you to showcase your achievements and memorable gaming moments with your community instantly.
