How to Take a Screenshot on PS4

Capturing memorable moments during gameplay on your PlayStation 4 is a simple process that requires just a single button press. This guide explains how to use the Share button to save screenshots, adjust your capture settings, and access your image gallery to view or share your favorite gaming moments with friends.

Using the Share Button

The primary method for capturing images on the PS4 involves the Share button located on the left side of the DualShock 4 controller. By default, pressing this button once will save a screenshot of your current screen to the console’s hard drive. You will see a notification in the top-left corner confirming that the screenshot has been saved. If you press and hold the Share button instead, the system will save a video clip of your recent gameplay.

Adjusting Share Settings

Users can customize how the Share button functions to better suit their preferences. Navigate to the Settings menu from the PS4 home screen and select Sharing and Broadcasts. From here, choose Share Button Control Type. You can switch between the default setting, where a single press takes a screenshot, or an alternative mode where a single press opens the Share menu and you must press the button again to capture the image. This section also allows you to set the default length for video clips.

Viewing and Managing Screenshots

Once captured, your images are stored in the Capture Gallery application on the PS4 home screen. Open this app to browse all your saved screenshots and video clips organized by game. You can view individual images, edit them with basic tools, or delete unwanted files to free up storage space. Selecting a specific screenshot allows you to see options for further management.

Sharing Your Captures

There are several ways to share your screenshots with others. From the Capture Gallery or the Share menu, you can upload images directly to linked social media accounts such as Twitter or Facebook. You can also send screenshots via PlayStation Network messages to friends on your friends list. Additionally, you can copy files to a USB storage device by inserting the drive into the console and selecting the option to save to USB storage within the gallery options.
