How to Switch Between User Profiles on Nintendo Switch

Switching between user profiles on the Nintendo Switch is a simple process that allows multiple players to access their own save data and settings on a single console. This guide outlines the quick steps required to change users from the Home menu, ensuring everyone can jump into their games without hassle. Whether you are sharing the system with family or friends, knowing how to navigate profiles efficiently enhances the overall gaming experience.

To begin the process, ensure your Nintendo Switch is powered on and you are currently viewing the Home menu. This is the main screen where your game icons are displayed in a horizontal row. If you are currently inside a game or application, press the Home button located on the right Joy-Con or the Pro Controller to return to this main screen without closing your software.

Once you are on the Home menu, look to the top-left corner of the screen. You will see a row of user icons representing the profiles currently linked to the console. The highlighted icon indicates the active user. Use the left joystick or directional buttons to navigate over to the icon of the user you wish to switch to. If the desired profile is not immediately visible, scroll to the left or right to reveal additional accounts.

After highlighting the correct user icon, press the A button to select it. The system will then transition to that user’s personal Home menu. Any save data, friend lists, and eShop balances associated with that specific profile will now be accessible. If the profile is protected by a PIN, you will be prompted to enter it before the switch is completed.

This method works regardless of whether the console is in handheld mode, tabletop mode, or docked to a TV. It is the fastest way to change users without needing to go into the System Settings. By mastering this quick navigation trick, multiple gamers can share one device while maintaining their individual progress and preferences seamlessly.
