How to Mute Microphone on DualSense Controller

The DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 features a built-in microphone that allows for quick communication without a headset. However, knowing how to mute this microphone instantly is crucial for privacy and audio quality during gameplay. This guide explains the physical button method, the light bar indicators, and how to manage microphone settings through the system menu to ensure you have full control over your audio input.

Using the Dedicated Mute Button

The fastest way to silence your input is by using the dedicated hardware button located on the face of the controller. Directly below the PlayStation button, you will find a small button with a microphone icon and a slash through it. Pressing this button toggles the microphone state between active and muted. When the microphone is muted, the light bar surrounding the touchpad will glow orange. If the light bar is off or white, depending on your user settings, the microphone is active and picking up sound.

Muting via the Control Center

If you prefer navigating through the software interface, you can mute the microphone using the Control Center. Press the PlayStation button on your controller to open the menu at the bottom of the screen. Navigate to the microphone icon located in the lower row of icons. Selecting this icon will allow you to toggle the mute function on or off. This method provides visual confirmation on the screen and is useful if you cannot see the controller’s light bar during play.

Adjusting Microphone Settings

For more permanent control, you can adjust the microphone settings within the system menu. Go to Settings and select Sound, then navigate to Microphone. Here, you can choose to mute the microphone entirely when logging in or adjust the input volume level. You also have the option to disable the controller microphone completely if you plan to use a dedicated headset instead. Managing these settings ensures that background noise does not interfere with your party chat or game audio communications.
