How to Link Nintendo Account to Nintendo Switch

Linking your Nintendo Account to your Nintendo Switch console is essential for accessing online multiplayer, purchasing games from the eShop, and syncing save data across devices. This guide walks you through the simple step-by-step process of connecting your existing account or creating a new one directly from your system settings, ensuring you can fully utilize your console’s digital features without confusion.

Prepare Your Information

Before beginning the linking process on your console, ensure you have your Nintendo Account login credentials ready. If you do not yet have an account, you can create one for free via the Nintendo website or during the linking process on the Switch. Having your email address and password accessible will streamline the connection and prevent interruptions while navigating the system menus.

Access User Settings

Turn on your Nintendo Switch and navigate to the Home Menu. At the top of the screen, you will see a row of user icons. Select the user profile you wish to link to your Nintendo Account. Once the profile is highlighted, press the A button to enter the user page. Here, you will see options related to your profile settings, friendship codes, and account linkage.

On the user page, look for the option labeled “Link Nintendo Account.” Select this option using the A button. The system will present you with a choice to either sign in to an existing account or create a new one. If you already have an account, choose “Sign In and Link.” If you are new to the ecosystem, select “Create Account” to be guided through the registration process via your web browser or the console interface.

Enter Credentials and Confirm

If signing in, you will be prompted to enter your email address and password associated with your Nintendo Account. Use the on-screen keyboard to input your details carefully. Once entered, select “Sign In.” The system will verify your credentials with Nintendo servers. Upon successful verification, you will see a confirmation screen indicating that the Nintendo Account is now linked to the selected user profile. Select “OK” to finalize the process.

Verify the Connection

To ensure the link was successful, return to the user page on the Home Menu. The “Link Nintendo Account” option should now display “Linked” beneath it. You can now access the Nintendo eShop to download games, join Nintendo Switch Online services for multiplayer gaming, and participate in special member-only events. If you encounter any errors during this process, double-check your internet connection and ensure your console system software is updated to the latest version.
