How to Enable History Playlist in RetroArch

RetroArch is a popular frontend for emulators, and keeping track of your recently played games is essential for a smooth experience. The history playlist automatically logs every core and content you launch, providing quick access to your gaming session history. This guide will walk you through the simple settings adjustments required to enable and manage the history playlist within the RetroArch interface.

Accessing the Settings Menu

To begin configuring your playlists, launch RetroArch and navigate to the main menu. Look for the option labeled Settings, usually represented by a gear icon. Click on this to open the configuration submenu where you can adjust various aspects of the emulator’s behavior, including privacy options and playlist management.

Enabling the History List

Within the Settings menu, scroll down until you locate the Playlist section. Select this option to view all playlist-related configurations. You will see a toggle switch labeled History List Enable. Change this setting from Off to On. Once activated, RetroArch will immediately begin recording every game you launch into a dedicated history log.

Viewing Your History

After enabling the feature, return to the main menu of RetroArch. You will now see a new entry labeled History among your existing playlists. Selecting this will display a chronological list of your recently played content. This allows you to quickly resume previous sessions without navigating through your entire library of games.

Managing and Clearing History

If you wish to remove specific entries or clear the entire log, you can do so within the History playlist view. Highlight the game entry you want to remove and select the option to delete it from the playlist. Alternatively, you can return to the Playlist settings menu to disable the history list entirely, which will stop new entries from being added while preserving the existing file unless manually deleted.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If the history playlist does not appear after enabling the setting, try restarting RetroArch completely. In some cases, the interface requires a full reload to reflect changes made in the settings menu. Additionally, ensure that you are saving your configuration changes by selecting Save Configuration in the main menu if you want these settings to persist across future sessions.
