How to Change Xbox One Account Region Settings

Changing the region settings on your Xbox One account allows you to access different content libraries and adjust system preferences based on your location. This guide walks you through the simple steps required to update your location directly from the console settings menu, ensuring you can enjoy region-specific apps and games without hassle.

Accessing the Settings Menu

To begin the process, turn on your Xbox One console and sign in to the account you wish to modify. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide menu. Navigate to the Profile & System tab, represented by your gamerpic icon, and select Settings from the options listed.

Updating Your Location

Within the Settings menu, choose the System category. From there, select Language & Location. You will see your current location displayed on the screen. Click on the Location dropdown menu to view the list of available countries and regions. Scroll through the list and select your new desired region. Once selected, the console will prompt you to restart the system for the changes to take effect.

Important Limitations to Consider

It is crucial to note that Microsoft limits the number of times you can change your region settings. You are allowed to change your location up to five times within a one-year period. If you exceed this limit, you will be locked out of changing the region again until the next year. Additionally, changing your region does not automatically transfer your existing balance or subscriptions, so ensure you understand how this affects your specific services before confirming the switch.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you are unable to change your location, ensure that you are not currently in the middle of a transaction or download. Some content may be region-locked, meaning it will no longer be accessible after switching to a different country. If the option remains grayed out, try performing a full power cycle by holding the power button on the console for ten seconds, unplugging the power brick, and plugging it back in before attempting the process again.
