How to Block Specific Players on the PS5
Managing your online privacy and gaming experience on the PlayStation 5 is essential for maintaining a safe environment. This article outlines the straightforward steps required to block specific users, preventing them from sending messages, joining your parties, or interacting with you in-game.
Using the Game Base Menu
The most common way to block a user is through the Game Base menu, which houses all your social interactions. Press the PS button on your controller to open the Control Center, then select the Game Base icon. Navigate to the Players tab to find recent players or search for a specific friend. Once you have selected the user’s profile, highlight the Options button on your controller to open a side menu. From this list, select Block. You will be asked to confirm your choice; select OK to finalize the block.
Blocking From a Message or Party
If you are currently receiving unwanted messages or are in a party with a disruptive user, you can block them directly from those interfaces. Open the message thread or party chat where the user is present. Highlight their name or avatar to bring up their profile card. Just as with the Game Base method, press the Options button on your controller and choose Block from the pop-up menu. This immediately severs their ability to communicate with you through that channel.
What Happens When You Block a Player
Once a player is blocked, they will no longer be able to send you friend requests, messages, or party invites. They cannot see your online status or what game you are currently playing. Additionally, blocked users are prevented from joining your sessions in most multiplayer environments. It is important to note that blocking someone does not automatically remove them from your friends list if they were already added; you may need to unfriend them separately if you wish to remove the connection entirely.
Managing Your Blocked List
You can review and modify the list of users you have blocked at any time through the settings menu. Go to Settings from the home screen, then navigate to Users and Accounts. Select Privacy, and then look for the Blocked Users option. Here you will see a complete list of every account you have restricted. If you decide to reconnect with someone, you can select their name from this list and choose Unblock to restore their ability to interact with your profile.
